James Madison University Libraries invites applicants for the Head of Media Production Services. This position is located with the Innovation Services Division of JMU Libraries, reports to the Director of Innovation Services and manages a team of media specialists, technical instructor, and students who support the work of the unit. The successful candidate will lead a team of professionals that provides production and professional services for instructional media that support JMU's academic community.
The successful candidate will organize and lead the work of the Media Production Services (MPS) unit within JMU Libraries and provide excellent consultation skills such that faculty and other clients will receive products/production assistance that meets educational need. The position will provide leadership, management, direction and oversight of the MPS unit; oversee the development, design, and delivery of media and related services; develop and maintain best practices for all phases of media production, including but not limited to: video importing, editing, exporting, storage, studio recording, motion graphics, animation, and other related services; ensure timely and professional delivery of excellent customer service; support and develop software and hardware operations to ensure best practice for integrating media content into coursework; and work collaboratively across JMU Libraries' teams and serves on Innovation Leadership and JMU Libraries Leadership teams.
Skills in media related software and production including video, photography, motion graphics, audio, scanning, and captioning; experience with the Adobe Suite, compression software/video codec is required; ability to manipulate and integrate various types of media into cohesive projects to meet educational outcomes; technical and troubleshooting skills with various computer hardware, software, and multimedia equipment; must have professional editing skills with multiple cameras and audio tracks; formal project management training or professional project management experience; and personnel management, successful supervision, and unit leadership experience.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of connecting an identified need to the appropriate technology solution; must have a demonstrated knowledge of the production cycle (in studio and onsite). Experience creating media projects in an academic setting is preferred. Animation, motion graphics, and 3-D modeling experience is also preferred.
