Compensation for this position is comprised of a base salary plus incentive compensation. The base salary range is $65,000 to $90,000 per year. Additional incentives bring total potential compensation to $71,500 to $100,000.

 

Syracuse.com and The Post-Standard are looking for a leader for our high school sports coverage team. 

The managing producer for high school sports is a unique, demanding and vital role in our newsroom. This editor leads our staff to produce high-quality enterprise and results coverage, and to develop staffers’ skills. You'll be expected to work from our Syracuse office four days a week.

 

The high school content is a key driver of digital subscriptions, so you also are expected to innovate content, events and products that drive business.

You’ll join a newsroom that is expanding its audience and reach, learning new approaches and leading the discussion in this area.

 

Our skilled newsroom has won national awards and dominated statewide awards for years. We are finding new ways to fund top-notch journalism for the long haul. 

Applicants are required to share a cover letter regarding interest and experience.

 

Qualified candidates should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or related field preferred. 
  • A minimum five years in journalism with a proven ability in writing/editing stories. Preferred at least two years of management and/or team leadership experience
  • The ability to work quickly with accuracy and good news judgment.
  • Proven experience leading staff to produce popular and important content in many forms.
  • Savvy at working with other departments, such as visuals, social media, marketing and the leadership team.
  • Ability to create and support popular events, such as sports media days and awards shows.
  • Talent to manage an extensive stats/roster/schedule digital package, and to exploit it for interesting content.
  • Curiosity, an open mind to trying new approaches and a good sense of humor.
