Benesch is proud to announce the opening for a Business Development Manager in our Chicago office! This position is hybrid and has work from home flexibility.

Position Summary:

Do you enjoy working with professionals to assist them in developing and marketing their practice/industry groups? Do you like creating pitches and proposals for attorneys in order to assist them in developing and retaining clients and helping them to expand their practice area? Then the role of Business Development Manager may be the one you've been looking for! This role is perfect for the creative marketing professional who can see the big picture and wants to help develop a marketing tool that allows professionals to cross the finish line when attracting new clientele.

The Business Development Manager works with the firm's Marketing & Business Development Department to identify opportunities, manage projects from start to completion, oversee initiatives and help drive revenue growth. This role entails a high level of attorney interaction and visibility, and requires strategic communication, adept writing skills, proactive and creative thinking, and proficient workload prioritization.

Essential Functions:

  1. Manages the preparation of pitches and responses to requests for proposals from start to finish, including coordinating the strategic approach, writing and organizing content, working with designer to create pitch products, and delivering high quality completed products by deadline.
  2. Works with attorneys in planning, preparing for and conducting initial meetings with and presentations to prospective clients.
  3. Helps to develop, write and maintain currency of content within proposal generator database.
  4. Monitors marketplace activity and strategy; reports and makes recommendations to firm leadership and Practice Group Leaders.
  5. Helps to maintain and drive action related to client and prospective clients pipelines, leading implementation efforts.
  6. Facilitates and assists in business planning for practice and industry groups, firm initiatives, and individual attorneys.
  7. Facilitates internal cross-selling of firm's capabilities across practice areas and offices by developing a deep understanding of individual attorney's practices and firm clients
  8. Helps to arrange and deliver business development and marketing-related training opportunities to attorneys.
  9. Creates, fosters, and maintains beneficial working relationships with external consultants in accordance with firm plans and objectives.
  10. Serves as marketing and business development liaison for specific practice groups and industry groups as determined by the Chief Marketing Officer.
  11. Conducts competitive / market intelligence, produces reports for attorneys and synthesizes information into actionable summaries.
  12. Helps to track attorneys' experience and develop and maintain various written marketing collateral pieces and experience database.
  13. Assists with client experience efforts, including leveraging client data to ensure we have an accurate picture of our relationships and identifying ways we can continually develop clients.
  14. Helps to manage and execute firm-hosted business development events, including webinars, client trainings, networking receptions, industry conferences and more. Assists with follow-up on such events and tracking of ROI.
  15. Participates in the annual firm-wide marketing budget planning process and execution.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The Business Development Manager must have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related area. The Business Development Manager must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in business development roles, ideally in a professional services field (legal, accounting, financial) and a minimum of three years of project management experience (PMP certification not required). The candidate must have experience in business development strategy, pitch and proposal formation, creating and monitoring business plans, goal tracking and sales pipeline management. Working knowledge of client relationship management software and MS based office software (Word, Excel, Outlook). Must possess an exceptional attitude to meet the needs of internal and external clients.
