Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Salary: $54,000 - $57,000

Binghamton University seeks to fill the position of Assistant Director, New Student Programs. This position will serve as a member of the Orientation team, whose primary responsibility is to design and implement an Orientation program for new students as they transition into Binghamton University. This position will also work to support new students in their overall transition throughout their first year.

Duties of this position include:
  • Assist the Director for New Student Programs with design, implementation and evaluation of new student orientations, including summer, fall, and spring Orientations
    • Serve as primary contact for on campus offices including Academic Advising, Student Services offices and Auxiliary Services and coordinate their involvement in Orientation
    • Develop and implement program sessions for new students
    • Develop and implement assessment plan
    • Oversee Orientation registration system (VZ Orientation) and process
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of all virtual components of the Orientation experience including Orientation Checklist, academic advising modules, Binghamton Buzz email series and other online materials
  • Responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of New Student Picnic, Class of B Photo and New Student Welcome events
  • Direct supervision, training and recruitment of undergraduate Orientation Advisors
  • Direct supervision and training of Returning Orientation Advisor Mentors to further develop their leadership as well as improve the Orientation program
  • Direct supervision, training and evaluation of the NODA graduate student interns
  • Direct supervision, training and evaluation of Graduate Assistant (academic year)
  • Develop and execute the Orientation Advisor training program to provide extensive training and development opportunities
  • Advise TEDx Binghamton University student directors including weekly meetings and assistance with event implementation
  • Assist the Director with the develop of the communication plan for new students
  • Maintain and update New Student Programs website
  • Responsible for the oversight and delivery of Orientation publications
  • Assist the Director with the management of the Orientation budget, including collecting payments, payment of faculty and staff, and payment for expenses
  • Support New Student Programs with additional programs and events throughout the academic year including new initiatives

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-undergraduate experience
  • Experience working in a University Setting
  • Excellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously in a team atmosphere
  • Able to work well in a diverse setting that includes faculty, staff, and students
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs or a related field
  • Working knowledge of Banner, OmniUpdate, and VZOrientation
