Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life is a full-time live-on professional staff member who provides support to sorority and fraternity chapters and governing councils with a strong focus on risk mitigation and management. The Assistant Director advances BU|BeWell through individual and group advising, program development and assessment, comprehensive education, living-learning communities, and leadership development. This position provides intentional direction and management of prevention education and member wellness programming. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by April 15th.

Responsibilities
  • Support the health and well-being of the fraternity and sorority community through coordination of a comprehensive approach to educate and support chapter members on important topics such as mental health, sexual misconduct, hazing, and alcohol/ other drugs.
  • Develop and implement prevention trainings to educate chapter risk management chairs and presidents on Butler policies, organization accountability, self-governance, and to assist leaders in improving chapter operations to mitigate and reduce risk.
  • Advocate for policies and procedures that address overall health and safety concerns with the fraternity and sorority community.
  • Oversee the social event management process to ensure chapters are complying with applicable laws, appropriate university policies, and Interfraternity Council/ Panhellenic Association policies.
  • Manage ongoing training for new member educators to help them in their efforts to eliminate hazing and other high-risk behaviors in the new member process.
  • Provide as needed support for Residence Life through professional staff on call duty rotation.
  • Support Fraternity/Sorority Life programs and events through the on campus living experience.
  • Assist the Director with the advising, supporting, mentoring, and coaching individual chapter leaders, governing council committees, and shared leadership for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association, or citywide chapters.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs staff, BUPD, and other campus partners to coordinate prevention education and ongoing support to reduce risk within our fraternity and sorority community.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with fraternity and sorority community constituents including inter/national headquarters staff, local advisory leadership, housing corporation boards, alumni/ae, faculty, staff, and families.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 to 2 year(s) of experience in student affairs or related industry
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in higher education administration, student personnel, education, risk management, or counseling
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of industry policies and best practices for advising fraternity and sorority leaders is preferred (e.g. NPC Manual of Information, NIC Health and Safety Standards, NPHC/MCGC constitution, bylaws and standing rules)
  • Membership in a fraternity or sorority
  • Experience with risk management on a college or university campus
  • Knowledge of student development theories and their application to students at a selective liberal arts institution
  • Working knowledge of law and compliance areas related to fraternity and sorority life
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration both within Student Affairs and across the University
  • Ability to engage with students using social media and technology
  • Planning, organizing and effective time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals
