About the Position:

Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion is committed to the mission of meeting the needs of a multi-cultural, diverse campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Payroll Services team as the Payroll Technician III. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to and under the general direction of the Payroll Services Manager, the Payroll Technician III will be responsible for the functions of Full-time Faculty Unit Additional Pay and Special Consultant pay processes within PeopleSoft (CMS) and the Personnel Information Management System. The Payroll Technician will provide daily administrative and technical support in assigned functional areas, colleges or departments, including the processing of full range pay, some benefits and disability transactions for all employee groups, as well as full cycle audits in support of transactions. Provides payroll and benefits information and consultative services to employees. Provides hands-on assistance as necessary to assure the proper and timely functioning of payroll processes into PIMS, PIP, and CMS. This position collaborates with the campus community in the review of university policies and procedures that affect payroll and benefits processing, Works in close coordination with other Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion (HRDI) units, other campus departments, the Chancellor's Office, State Controller's Office, CalPERS, and other entities as appropriate. Assists in the development, maintenance, and implementation of improvements in payroll program initiatives. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Equivalent to three years of increasingly responsible specialized experience in preparing and processing payroll/personnel transaction documents. Ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities. Possession of solid analytical skills, sound judgement and excellent organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated initiative and innovation in solving problems. Strong experience with an automated Payroll system. Thorough knowledge of Business English and arithmetic; general knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices. Expertise in Microsoft applications. Thorough knowledge of, or the ability to acquire quickly: Uniform State Payroll Procedures Manual, Personnel Information Management System (PIMS), Public Employees' retirement manual, and PeopleSoft (CMS).

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
CMS Baseline or Peoplesoft HR experience. Experience in preparing and processing payroll/ personnel transactions in a CSU environment. Functional knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to wages.
