Reporting to the Director of Skilled Trades & Transportation, this position, in support of the College’s enrollment, retention and graduation goals, establishes and administers programs for recruiting students to the College Skilled Trades & Transportation Workforce Training and Certification programs. The incumbent will independently represent the institution to targeted constituencies across the Upper Eastern Shore of Maryland Region. 
 
In support of Chesapeake College and in the Skilled Trades & Transportation Workforce Trades and Certification programs, the incumbent will support the program’s DEI goals and initiatives including building and sustaining an inclusive working and learning environment for all students, staff, and faculty.

Examples of Duties

 

  • Develops, plans, and implements short- and long-range goals for the College Skilled Trades & Transportation Workforce Training and Certification programs.
  • Strategizes on opportunities to enhance recruitment efforts and implements identified strategies. 
  • Examines and re-engineers operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Plans, assesses, and evaluates recruitment and enrollment programs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with identified partners within the institution and community. 
  • Prepares reports and proposals regarding recruitment and outreach activities, and responds to inquiries from students and minority agencies.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


External Collaboration & Recruitment

  • Represents Chesapeake College Skilled Trades and Transportation Programs to targeted constituencies; visits businesses and community agencies; speaks to groups and individuals; meets with business administrators, school counselors, and/or other constituent groups to promote outreach activities and as required to assist other recruiters.

 

  • Develops, coordinates and delivers outreach programs and marketing strategies, including community workshops, and related recruitment efforts; arranges visits and tours for prospective students, community members, and business and industry representatives.

 

  • Provides workforce, career and academic counseling, planning, and advising to potential students utilizing specific knowledge gained of Chesapeake College’s workforce programs, apprenticeships and degrees.

 

  • Independently develops and maintains partnerships between the college, private businesses, government/ nonprofit agencies, local school systems, alumni networks, faculty, community partners, and other identified groups throughout the region.


Internal Collaboration

  • Coordinates college participation of staff and alumni for college recruitment fairs, and related outreach events; coordinates event-specific organizational aspects, promotional materials and information from the college, workforce programs, apprenticeships and degrees.

 

  • Participates in and/or organizes and implements all aspects of large, multi- departmental special events utilizing presentation and promotional materials, maintaining budgetary and operational controls, coordination skills with multiple entities

 

  • Serves independently as the point person for internal coordination of Skilled Trades and Transportation student recruitment and enrollment management goals utilizing specific knowledge gained of admissions, registration criteria and financial aid and/or scholarship information and deadlines for both credit and non-credit workforce training programs and apprenticeships.

 

  • Collaborates with Public Relations, Marketing and the Strategic Enrollment Management committee to prioritize, develop, create marketing campaigns for Skilled Trades and Transportation initiatives and ensures distribution of resource materials for student recruitment and retention programs; develops mentorship programs; analyzes trends in recruitment and retention programs; develops strategies for program evaluation.

 
Apprenticeship Development

  • Supports existing apprenticeship programs.
  • Provides business and industry representatives with information about current apprenticeships.
  • Supports businesses and industry representations in completing the Maryland Apprenticeship Sponsor application by working with program staff to identify the appropriate Related Instruction for their apprenticeship
  • Identifies potential/ future workforce training courses that could be developed to be used as related instruction for apprenticeships.
  • Evaluates at least annually, the viability/ appropriateness of Chesapeake College as a potential MD Apprenticeship Sponsoring agency.

 

Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma and at least 5 years of related experience to the specified job duties and responsibilities; OR,
  • Associates degree with 2 years of experience related to the specified job duties and responsibilities.

 
Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to travel by vehicle locally.
  • A valid driver's license, or ability to obtain a valid driver's license within thirty days of hire, is required for this job.

  • Most of the job is sedentary, however, occasional periods of light work may be required;  
  • Lifting up to approximately 35 lbs. occasionally.
