Administrative Specialist - Criminal Investigations Division (CID)

The Administrative Specialist position is a full-time role with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $19.66 - $21.62 per hour (equivalent to $40,892 - $44,969 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. As the ideal candidate for this position, you will enjoy significant public/employee interaction while performing a variety of administrative duties in the Criminal Investigations Division. Specifically in this role as the Administrative Specialist, you'll: Provide operational support to CID supervisors and detectives; Serve as the department administrator for investigative support programs and softwares; Prepare case file folders for newly assigned cases, including labeling the case number, crime type, victim, and detective information; Prepare major case binders for significant cases, as required; Respond to official discovery requests by providing necessary case reports and other documents, as required; Perform a variety of other departmental administrative duties; Operate a City vehicle in the performance of job duties. Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED and moderate (1-3 years) experience providing specialized administrative support and office operations, preferably in a related program area. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement. Availability to work Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional availability outside of these hours, as needed. Valid driver's license. Current possession of or the ability to obtain Level A VCIN certification within six months of employment. Click here to view the physical requirements for this position. The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results: DMV record review; and Criminal background investigation, including VCIN Database Query and Fingerprinting*. *Due to the sensitive nature of information available through the performance of this position's essential functions, the successful applicant selected for the role will be subject to a criminal background investigation and fingerprinting by the Harrisonburg Police Department. At a later date, more information will be provided to the candidate selected for those steps in this process.
