The Equipment/Automotive Mechanic (Specialist I Level) position is a full-time role with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $18.64 - $21.44 per hour (equivalent to $38,771 - $44,595 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and in compliance with City Policy Section 3: Compensation. As an Equipment Mechanic in the Department of Public Transportation, you'll perform a variety of difficult technical work on a variety of automotive, medium, and heavy equipment in the City's Central Garage, which services all City of Harrisonburg departments. In this vital role, you'll have an opportunity to perform preventative maintenance, make service calls and repair vehicles/equipment in the field, and perform other related duties to ensure the City has operationally-sound vehicles and equipment to carry out high-quality City services. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED and moderate (1-3 years) experience in vehicle repair/maintenance setting. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be used to meet this requirement. Valid driver's license at time of hire. Commercial Driver's License required within six (6) months of hire date. Availability to work on-call during off-hours for emergency assistance, such as during inclement weather, as needed. The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results: Criminal background check; DMV record review; Virginia Department of Education physical examination; Federal Transit Administration physical examination; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse query; Alcohol & controlled substances testing as required by the Department of Transportation.
