The Specialist I - Traffic Signals position is a full-time career opportunity with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $21.48 - $23.62 per hour (equivalent to $44,678 - $49,129 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. Applicants will be considered at the level for which they meet minimum requirements and at an annual rate commensurate with their qualifications. As a Specialist I - Traffic Signals, you'll: Perform traffic signals cabinet maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation; Utilize computer software to program and install traffic controllers, malfunction management unit, battery back-up systems, emergency preemption systems, video detection system, pedestrian detection system, broadband radio equipment, and other related traffic signal equipment; Perform overhead installation and preventive maintenance of traffic signal equipment and components; Clean and repair signals, cameras, and emergency preemption systems; Adjust components, such as signal brackets and pedestrian signal heads and buttons; Pull signal wire and fiber optic cable through conduit and junction boxes, terminate wire and fiber optic cable, and maintain and repair wire and cable as needed; Assist with the operation, cleaning, and maintenance of the pavement line marking paint truck; Assist with lane layout and roadway markings after new pavement is installed in accordance with the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); Assist with the installation and repair of thermoplastic road markings; Set up and remove work zone signage in accordance with regulatory standards; Prepare and enter work orders into the City’s work order and asset management system; Perform tool and inventory work at the signal shop and complete truck inspections and truck inventory control; Assemble new signal heads, pre-test traffic signals cabinets, and burn-in cabinets and components; Complete MISS Utility markings; Perform snow and ice removal operations and related duties as assigned; Operate a city vehicle in the performance of job duties; Participate in required stand-by/on-call rotation and duties. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements at Time of Application: High school diploma or GED and moderate (1-3 years) experience in the street maintenance, construction, electrical, fiber optic installation, computer science, or manufacturing fields. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement. Valid driver's license. Availability and willingness to participate in a non-working hours stand-by program. Availability and willingness to participate in departmental operations during inclement weather. Requirements After Hire Date (On-The-Job Training Provided): Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire date; Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Intermediate Work Zone Safety Certification within twelve (12) months of hire date; Fiber Optic Termination Certification within twelve (12) months of hire date; International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Field Level I Certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire date.
