Tacoma Power's Resource Operations and Trading team is currently seeking a Principal Organized Markets Data Analyst to join its high-powered team. The Resource Operations and Trading team is responsible for managing the operation and optimization of Tacoma Power’s resource portfolio while maximizing the value of Tacoma Power's interactions with wholesale electric power markets. The Resource Operations and Trading team's core focus is to maximize Tacoma Power's wholesale electric power market revenue while minimizing price and volumetric risk. These activities are vital to maintaining low and stable rates for Tacoma Power's retail service customers.
 
The Principal Organized Markets Data Analyst is a subject-matter expert responsible for applying advanced statistical techniques to report on Tacoma Power's performance and inform Tacoma Power's strategy in organized wholesale electric power markets. The ideal candidate is adept at making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information; building partnerships with others to meet shared objectives; developing and delivering multi-modal communications that clearly convey the message intended for their audience; gaining the confidence and trust of others; and learning through experimentation while tackling new problems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with trading, operations, and policy staff to design business intelligence models, metrics, dashboards, visuals, and reports. Utilize the business intelligence garnered from these tools to inform market strategy and management decision-making. 
  • Use subject matter expertise to inform Applications/Systems Engineers in the development and improvement of market databases and applications. Utilize those databases and applications to further inform and optimize Tacoma Power's interactions with organized electricity markets. 
  • Work cross-functionally to model and analyze the impact of market design initiatives, regulatory rule making, and market alternatives on Tacoma Power's organized market position. Inform market policy and strategy with model and analysis results. Update and refine models to reflect changes in business strategy or policy landscape. 
  • Employ statistical techniques to analyze market financial outcomes against the operational constraints and trading strategies they reflect. From that analysis, identify and communicate opportunities to increase value to Operations & Trading staff and management.
  • Assist junior staff with identifying the root of complex back-office issues.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics or directly related field.

Minimum Experience*
4 years of experience in statistical analysis, data modeling or data analytics including 1 year prior lead or supervisory experience.

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education 

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Some Assignments:
North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection certification (NECC-CIP)
