Position Description

The Department of Studio Art at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position in Drawing, with a secondary specialty in Painting, starting in August of 2024. Visiting appointments at the College of Charleston are made on an annual basis with the possibility of renewal based on performance and need. This is a 1-year appointment, with the possibility of renewability up to 3 years. The successful candidate must have an MFA in Drawing or Painting and preference will be given to applicants with at least two years of college teaching experience beyond a graduate assistantship.

Teaching responsibilities: a 4/4 course load, teaching introductory to advanced drawing and painting courses and a general education humanities art foundations course, to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors. Position includes departmental service and student advising duties.

One of 6 departments/programs in the School of the Arts, the Studio Art Department encourages creative productivity and close mentoring in 5 areas of study: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is a nationally recognized public liberal arts and sciences university located on a scenic campus in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The student body numbers approximately 12,000 in undergraduate and graduate programs combined.
