Job Title: Cook
Program: Medical Respite and Sobering Center, 1171 Mission St.
Reports To: Culinary Operations Manager                   
Status:         Non-exempt, Union

Hours: 11am-7pm, Sa-W

Wage: $24.08/hour



JOB SUMMARY:

The Cook is responsible for food preparation, efficiently maintaining an institutional kitchen in accordance with program standards, and preparing healthy, nutritious meals while maintaining safe and sanitary conditions. The nature of work requires sustained physical effort involving considerable standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting. 

 ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Food preparation.
  • Assist with menu planning.
  • Assist in tracking, and maintaining inventory of all food and food preparation products.
  • Maintain sanitation standards and observe all safety procedures.
  • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen and equipment.
  • Support the Medical Respite and Sobering Center's mission to promote stabilization, hope, and healing for people experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. 
  • Work collaboratively with CFSF and DPH employees in an integrated team to meet shared goals. 
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Training and meeting attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:

  • Adequate literacy skills: reading comprehension required.
  • Thorough knowledge of food preparation, menu planning, and sanitation techniques.
  • Two years of experience as a Cook in an institutional setting or background in quantity cooking.  
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
  • Ability to work in a kitchen environment, performing essential physical duties, such as lifting 50 lbs.  
  • CPR and first aid certification within 90 days of hire. 
  • TB clearance and verification of COVID-19 vaccination within 7 days of hire.
  • Current food safety certification (if expired, re-certification within 60 days of hire).
