Position Summary:
The Adaptive Technology Specialist's main functions are using specially designed software and equipment, proctoring of exams, reading and scribing for exams, and providing access to print materials.

Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of the Academic Support Center, the Adaptive Technology Specialist is responsible for providing direct academic services for students with disabilities, through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Coordinates and schedule's alternate location testing appointments with students and instructors.
  • Proctors' tests for students needing extended time and/or testing in an alternate location.
  • Provides access to appropriate course testing through adaptive technology and/or reading and scribing tests.
  • Trains students with disabilities on the use of adaptive technologies and equipment that includes:
    • Read & Write for Google Chrome
    • MAGic magnification software
    • Speak Q
    • GEM for Onyx Portable
    • Optelec, Onyx Portable, Silencer, Track ball, FM transmitters
  • Provides access to print materials:
    • orders ebooks from accesstext.org, Learning Ally, Bookshare and other publishers
    • enlarges class handouts and reference materials.
  • Provides access to placement testing by administering tests using format based on individual student needs. This may involve the use of adaptive technology as well as reading and scribing tests.
  • Prepares and compiles annual year-end report

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and relevant educational experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Experience proctoring exams.
  • Experience working with faculty and staff members in different departments or divisions.
  • Experience working at a community college.
Salary:
$37.48 hourly.
