Position Summary:
The RISE Coordinator is a temporary grant funded position that works under the direction of the Director of Academic Advising. The position coordinates with advising new and first year students, coordinating and advising support to the RISE program. The incumbent is required to have collaborative and cooperative relationships with faculty, staff and students. The incumbent is required to have excellent organizational and case management skills. The incumbent is expected to represent the College in a positive manner and to collaborate with academic and student services departments to contribute to retaining students.

Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of Academic Advising, the Rise Coordinator is responsible for advising, tracking, and providing social support needs to first year programming, and the RISE program through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Outreach via telephone, text or other technology to prospective and new students.
  • Provide professional and enthusiastic customer service to prospective students.
  • Tracking and case management for the Hartford Promise Program, maintaining student records in Insight.
  • Lead RISE sessions (during registration periods only).
  • Works closely with the Admissions Office and Placement Testing.
  • Be knowledgeable about the resources the college provides to students.
  • Advise, support, and provide academic programming to students in the RISE program.


In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.  These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in an appropriately related field together with one to four years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.
  • Highly effective student services background preferred. 
  • Possess an understanding of the admission and new student onboarding processes.
  • Ability to work in a fast- paced environment. 
  • Active listening skills.
  • Demonstrate organizational and administrative ability.
  • Ability to multitask and provide innovative solutions to problems that prevent students from successfully registering and attending college.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) or more years' experience working with federal or state grants.
  • Experience with grant reporting.
Starting Salary:
Anticipated Salary; $62,033 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.

The selection process may also include practical exercises (i.e., teaching demonstration and/or other written, technical, manipulative, or simulation exercises) to evaluate candidates' qualifications.
