Delta State University (DSU) is a public comprehensive institution located in the Mississippi Delta in Cleveland, MS, located on 332 acres, with over 2,700 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. Dozens of degree programs on the undergraduate level provide educational opportunities in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business and Aviation, Education and Human Sciences, and in the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing. Graduate programs on the master's, educational specialist, and doctoral levels provide advanced training in a broad range of disciplines.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean of the College of Business and Aviation will have direct reports in the dean's office, three academic departments, and several grant programs.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:The Dean of the College of Business and Aviation's purpose in this job is to provide leadership on behalf of the teaching, research, and service missions of the College of Business and Aviation. This position supports faculty and staff in providing students with a quality educational experience in pursuing their professional development goals. It serves as a resource for the economic development of the Mississippi Delta.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
  • Plan and direct the instructional administration of the college.
  • Manage the College of Business and Aviation budget.
  • Raise private donations and grant funds.
  • Represent the College of Business and Aviation and the Center for Community and Economic Development in various capacities while working with internal and external entities.
  • Establish processes for setting strategic directions for student and program performance requirements and meeting community needs.
  • Ensure the College of Business and Aviation meets national accreditation standards.
  • Perform professional services for accrediting agencies (ACBSP and SACSCOC) to further the quality of higher education.
  • Review business and aviation academic programs and capabilities, ensuring that they have the capacity to address changing market demands.
  • Provide strategic leadership to address and resolve student, faculty, and staff concerns, as well as issues related to student enrollment, and others.
  • Serve on the Board of Directors of community and economic agencies.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire teaching professors and administrative staff.
  • Supervise the Center for Community and Economic Development staff.
  • Supervise the chairs for the Division of Management, Marketing, and Business Administration and the Division of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems, and Finance.
  • Supervise the chair and the director of flight operations for the Department of Commercial Aviation, which employs ground classroom instructors, flight instructors, aircraft mechanics, aircraft handlers/refuelers, and a dispatcher.
  • Serve as Building Manager for Broom Hall.


Qualifications:
  • A minimum of five years of excellence in teaching, research, and service at a four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of five years in administrative academic leadership at a four-year college or university.
  • A record of, or the clear potential to develop a record of, securing external funding through grants and/or development and advancement activity.
  • Demonstration of a familiarity with contemporary enrollment management practices at the college level.
  • An earned PhD or DBA in a business or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Work experience in a business, community, economic, or entrepreneurial organization.
  • A strong track record of successful personnel management in an administrative role, including experience mentoring talented faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience in securing external grants for aviation programs and sustainability of programs such as AFJROTC, Aerial Applicator Career Pathway Training, RASPET Research, and others.
  • Knowledgeable about 14 CFR, Part 141 flight school regulations and requirements, Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) requirements and standards, and the substantial financial expenses and high dollar procurement process required to maintain airplanes, repair parts, supplies, and equipment in a flight school and the revenue created by flight training.


Salary:
12 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
