Du�es Summary
This is the staff/journey level for nursing posi�ons that are assigned to one clinical service area or 
rota�on among the various nursing areas of the ins�tu�on or hospital. Assignments involve the 
responsibility for developing and implemen�ng nursing care plans for pa�ents with a wide range of 
nursing care problems; providing nursing care and treatment services to pa�ents assigned to the unit 
and assigning and direc�ng the work of nursing assistants.
Because they possess experience and the ability to evaluate pa�ents' condi�ons and render 
comprehensive nursing diagnoses, posi�ons may also serve as charge nurses, relieving the head nurse 
for the evening or night shi�. This involves responsibly for providing pa�ent care and treatment services 
per doctor's orders; implemen�ng nursing care plans approved by the unit nursing supervisor; and 
responding to pa�ent emergencies.
Minimum Qualifica�on Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
Hawaii Registered Nurse License: Applicants MUST POSSESS a valid license to prac�ce as a Registered 
Nurse in the State of Hawaii.
Experience: Six (6) months of professional nursing work experience as a registered nurse.
CPR Cer�fica�on: Incumbents must be prepared at all �mes to immediately provide emergency medical 
services when needed, including Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscita�on (CPR). Therefore, you must possess a 
current CPR cer�fica�on at the �me of applica�on. 
MUST atach a copy of your current CPR cer�ficate to your applica�on.
Prison Rape Elimina�on Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimina�on Act of 
2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "...an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have 
contact with inmates and who:
1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility 
or other ins�tu�on.
2) Has been convicted of engaging or atemp�ng to engage in sexual ac�vity in the community 
facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the vic�m did not consent or 
was unable to consent or refuse.
3) Has been civilly or administra�vely adjudicated to have engaged in the ac�vity described in #2 
above.
4) Has been the subject of substan�ated allega�ons of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned 
during a pending inves�ga�on of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
Other Requirements: Applicants who are condi�onally offered employment or condi�onally approved 
for movement into posi�ons with the Department of Public Safety shall be subject to drug screening, as 
required by Federal, State or local laws or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive 
background check.
