The Department of Media and Communications at Drew University invites applications for the non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice position beginning August 2024. The successful candidate must have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduates and be able to teach core and elective practice-based courses in documentary filmmaking and civically engaged media production. They will also have the opportunity to direct Drew's NY Semester on Communications and Media, an 8-credit program taught off-campus in New York City. Strong applicants will have specializations in one or more of the following areas: documentary media production (broadly construed), feminist media studies, disability studies, sound studies, empirical approaches to media research and visualization, critical digital studies, media archaeology, and media and social justice.
Key Responsibilities:
The position's primary responsibilities include teaching, student advising, and active engagement in departmental and co-curricular events. Our ideal candidate must:
● Have demonstrated experience in media production
● Be able to teach Documentary Practice, Civic Media, and Introduction to Media Industries
● Collaborate effectively with community partners to facilitate Drew's bi-annual narrative and documentary filmmaking events
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or MFA in a relevant field by August 2024. Applicants with a terminal degree in Journalism and experience in film, radio, or television are also encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with:
● Ability to teach both Media and Communications and Art students video and audio editing in Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition
● Proven track record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
● A strong background in Media Studies, Communications, or related fields
