Geotechnical Field Technician

Earth Solutions NW, LLC (ESNW) is currently accepting resumes of applicants with Geology, Civil Engineering (with a geotechnical emphasis), and Earth Science degrees for the position of Geotechnical Field Technician for our commercial and residential construction projects in the Tri-Cities and surrounding area. Experienced field technicians are also encouraged to apply.

Coverage Area: Outside of the traditional Tri-Cities area, jobsites may be located in Yakima, Moses Lake, Walla Walla, and communities in between.  Occasional site visits to even farther locations, such as Spokane or Ellensburg, may also be required.  Significant daily commuting to collect equipment and visit jobsites may be necessary and should be expected.

Sample Position Requirements and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform observation and compaction testing (with nuclear density gauge) of earthwork construction, such as structural fill placement for building pads, building foundations, and utility trench backfill.
  2. Collect and transport soil samples for laboratory analysis, which requires the ability to carry 35 to 50 pounds.
  3. Observe and document various construction aspects, such as slope stability, rockery construction, block wall construction, and roadway construction.
  4. Observe and document foundation and/or excavation activities, such as underground excavations/deep foundations with soldier pile shoring and wood lagging, foundation pipe piles, aggregate piles, etc.
  5. Observe site erosion control measures and test turbidity/pH of stormwater.
  6. Prepare field reports summarizing field observations and testing results. Field reports must be written in a professional, coherent, and technically competent manner and must be written and submitted within 24 to 48 hours of site visits.
  7. Communicate regularly and effectively with contractors and project managers/staff.
  8. Be able and willing to work in conjunction with typical construction hours, which may be as long as 7 am to 7 pm in the summertime. Work is occasionally available on the weekends or overnight. Overtime hours are also available.
  9. Drive personal car/truck to complete job assignments. Personal vehicles must have the capability to store nuclear density gauge and equipment.

Job Type: Part time, with the ability to become a full-time employee upon demonstration of strong work ethic and the ability to work at least 30 hours per week.

Compensation:

  • $21.00/hr to $32.00/hr, depending on education and experience.
  • Quarterly bonuses, at the discretion of ESNW.
  • Reimbursement for miles driven in personal vehicle (for non-commute miles).
