East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Biology Laboratory Technician! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the Biology Laboratory Technician, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable ensuring the smooth operation and preparation of laboratory sections offered by the Department of Biological Sciences. You will be an active member of the Biology team and will work closely with the Chair to assist faculty, students, and staff in keeping all teaching labs stocked and organized. You will thrive in this role if you like utilizing your experience working/teaching in a laboratory setting while ensuring materials, including their disposal, are safe and completed properly per regulations. To be successful in this role, you must be able to juggle multiple priorities and have excellent organizational and communication skills

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Biology Laboratory Technician. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
  • Order, organize, properly store and maintain records including MSDS sheets, according to all applicable standards and rules, for lab materials including chemical reagents and hazardous substances.
  • Prepare science labs according to all required standards, ensuring sufficient supplies of materials to be used in labs are available including chemical reagents and live/preserved animal and plant specimens.
  • Prepare and distribute all necessary materials for each lab and ensure subsequent cleanup with proper disposal of materials in a timely manner.
  • Provide proper training in safety, handling and preparing materials, chemicals, specimens, and delegate appropriate tasks to student workers to ensure safe functioning of labs and lab spaces.
  • Maintain and coordinate repair of lab and research equipment, including microscopes.
  • Oversee care of live animals according to IACUC protocols and standards, maintain proper records for the university IACUC committee.
  • Perform related work as required.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in biology or related field is required. Master's Degree in Biology with 16 credit hours in Chemistry is preferred.
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, which may include handling lab procedures, materials, and providing direction to student workers simultaneously.
  • Must handle safety and security of materials and lab chemicals with utmost respect and knowledge.
  • Must have an intermediate knowledge of standard software including word processing, spreadsheet and database management.
  • Prior experience working/teaching in a laboratory setting including maintaining equipment, working with chemicals, and caring for live animals required.
  • Must have professional work experience in Microsoft Suite, specifically in Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
