Job Summary:
  • A leading university starts with leading facilities. EWU is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 3 - Building Maintenance in our growing facilities and maintenance department.
    • The primary function of this position is light construction and renovation remodels at the journey level.
    • This position leads full-time and temporary employees on multiple projects, coordinating with supervisor purchasing of materials and needed equipment, assisting with estimates and change orders for projects. This position also acts as a liaison between the different shops and departments regarding ongoing projects.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school graduation or GED
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required
  • Completion of a recognized trades apprenticeship program or a minimum of 5 years work experience in either carpentry; electrical; plumbing; or HVAC
  • Must be able to read blueprints
  • Must be able to use an elevation transit
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fork lift card
  • Experience in tenant improvements / office remodel

Responsibility / Duty:
  • Lead and perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of University properties

  • Assure that all Staff members arrive at job sites with the proper tools, parts and equipment necessary to perform the tasks required to complete the job as assigned

  • Responsible in keeping all tools and equipment in working condition, to include vehicle, hand and specialty tools.
  • Assure that Staff members keep all job sites uncluttered and safe. Assure that Staff clean work areas at the end of every day and the completion of job.
  • Assure the completion of all projects in a timely manner consistent with the expectations set at the start of the job

Conditions of Employment:
  • Successful candidate must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Successful candidate must be able to pass a pre-placement physical.
  • During the course of university employment this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
  • All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
  • Upon hire employees will complete required DEI, Hazing, and Harassment and Title IX training. Salary Information: $60,792 – $70,476
