JOB TITLE: Evidence Collection Technician
CLASSIFICATION: Sworn Law Enforcement Officer or Civilian
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Experienced
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time
SALARY: $55,000.00 - $90,000.00/year depending upon qualifications

JOB OBJECTIVES:
The primary objectives of this position are the identification, collection, documentation and
preservation of physical evidence found at crime scenes for the purposes of further examination
and presentation in court. This position is also responsible for the training of sworn officers in
evidence collection, quality control of evidence collection, and managing evidence collection
supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, forensic sciences,
chemistry, biology, geology or related physical or natural science from an accredited college or
university.
Note: Candidates may substitute experience in identifying, collecting, recording and preserving
physical evidence at crime and disaster scenes on a year for year basis for the required education.
Licenses: Possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in a job performing crime scene work.
• Experience supervising crime scene processing.
• Experience or certification as an instructor regarding evidence collection and processing.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Lateral Officers: Must be able to meet all criteria for certification as a law enforcement
officer in the State of Maryland.
•Civilians: Subject to a criminal background investigation with a polygraph examination,
initial drug screening, and psychological and physical examinations.
