Position Summary

The Student Professional Development Center reports through the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships to the President's Office.

The Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) is Elon University's career services office. The SPDC supports the professional development of all undergraduate and graduate students, except for Elon Law. Elon Law has a dedicated team of career advisors located on the Elon Law campus in Greensboro. The SPDC also provides professional development assistance to alumni for a lifetime.

The SPDC works under a hub and spoke model with operations centralized out of the main
office in the Moseley Student Center. Each “spoke” is led by a Senior Associate Director. THe SPDC has satellite offices in the Love School of Business's Koury Business Center and in the School of Communications' McEwen Building. It's critical for these satellite offices to be embedded in our two largest professional schools. Although staff can work with all students, the staff in each satellite office have expert insight into the industries and fields of their perspective schools.

How you will Achieve More with the Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) at Elon
University:

We are excited to welcome a new member to the SPDC team in a role dedicated to the growth and strategic development of Study USA internship support and professional development support for graduate international students. This position acts as the liaison between the SPDC and the Global Education Center (GEC), working closely with staff in both departments to assure that quality services are rendered. The Assistant/ Associate Director of Career Services for Study USA and International Students will support students pursuing required Study USA internships at National Campuses. Working closely with partners in the GEC and National Campuses, this staff member will be the primary Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) point of contact for Elon in NYC, LA, Washington DC, Charlotte, and any future National Campuses.

Additionally, aligned with the GEC, this position will offer 1:1 professional development and programming support for the unique needs of graduate international students pursuing internship and full-time opportunities.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Completed bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in higher education, counseling, human resources or related field is preferred. Experience in career advising, coaching, and/or mentoring in a college/university setting. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, with a commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree in higher education, counseling, human resources or related field preferred. 2-5 years of career advising, coaching, and/or mentoring in a college/university setting. Familiarity with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Demonstrated ability to foster relationships among a diverse range of constituents including; students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and employers.

Job Duties
  • In support of Study USA programming and National Campuses this position will:
    • Track and regularly meet with students who have applied for Study USA programs, assuring that students have updated internship application materials and are actively applying for internships in their respective locations.
    • Assist in creating and setting internship search progress deadlines to help students secure internships in a timely manner.
    • Reach out to students who are in the applications process for Study USA programs, provide 1:1 meetings, coffee chats, and other engagement opportunities for students.
    • Design and maintain internship focused pre-departure documents, presentations, processes, and information under the consultancy of internship directors.
    • In coordination with the Global Education Center, present to Study USA applicants as a part of the pre-departure process, educating on internship and internship registration requirements.
    • Create and maintain a Study USA internship database for National Campus location.
    • Attend recruiting and outreach events with National Campus and Study USA staff.
    • Regularly visit National Campus locations, collaborate with on-site staff to plan professional development and internship search support programs that align with the National Campus enrichment calendar.
    • As needed, collaborate with National Campuses on-site staff to provide professional development programming support for post-graduate Bridges programs.
    • As needed, work with the Corporate and Employer Relations team to build, maintain, and discover new internship opportunities to support the growth of National Campuses and Study USA programs.
    • Act as an SPDC liaison to the Global Education Center and National Campuses
  • In support of professional development for graduate international students:
    • Work with the Director of International Student Services and the International Student Services Coordinator to create professional development programming for international graduate students
    • Grow SPDC expertise in Interstride, and become the office expert on the software
    • Explore acting as a School Official within the SPDC for graduate international students
    • Offer 1:1 career advising to graduate international students
    • Partner with International Student Services to gain an understanding of visa types and work visa options for graduate international students
    • Collaborate across schools to create consistencies with graduate international student programming and career advising
    • Partner with the Corporate and Employer Relations team to become the curator of a database of international student friendly organization partners
