Position Summary

Elon University's Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) is pleased to announce the office's career fellowship position beginning Monday, August 5th, 2024. The fellowship is a full-time, 10-month position, with the opportunity to extend to a second year based on performance and interest. The individual in this position will assist in various aspects of operations, with a special focus on supporting the satellite offices for the Love School of Business and the School of Communications.

The fellow will receive $2,000.00 per month as well as university housing and a meal stipend. The meal stipend can be used at on campus dining locations as well as multiple off-campus dining, grocery, and retail locations in the Elon/Burlington area. The fellow is also granted funds for professional development and opportunities for personal and professional growth such as conferences and development programs (e.g. NCACE Leadership Institute), and if selected, the opportunity to participate in service-learning programs (e.g. alternative spring break trips). Please note: health insurance is not provided by Elon University for the fellowship.

Meet Your Future Team:
The Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) team is a self-motivated and lively group, with an innate curiosity to learn. This team includes 20+ individuals who are eager to do everything they can to support Elon students. The Career Services Advising Fellow will report to the Assistant Director of Career Services for the School of Communications and work from the main SPDC office in the Moseley Center, but will also provide support to the career advising team in the Porter Center for the Love School of Business and the Communications careers team in the School of Communications.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Upon starting the fellowship, candidates must have completed their graduate degree in a related field such as counseling, higher education administration, or human resources.

Candidates must be able to commit to the full 10-month appointment to begin in August including committing to living accommodations on-campus. We may be able to accommodate pets on a case-by-case basis. Candidates must be willing to get certified to drive vans for career events unless they have special accommodations or circumstances preventing them from doing so.

Job Duties
  • Career advising 1:1 appointments, classroom/student organization presentations, and employer relations
  • Co-teaching Elon's one credit Career Exploration and Education courses focused on exploring careers and preparing students for their professional life after college
  • Supporting Elon's growing list of student professional development programming and events, both in-person and virtually
  • Building relationships with offices/departments across campus, including Residence Life and Academic Advising, and lead career programming initiatives that align with professional interests to further support the work of the SPDC
  • Assisting with marketing efforts (e.g. social media) while showing an interest in supporting the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the office
