Your impact
In this newly created position, you'll be instrumental in driving strategic direction, clinical excellence and intellectual leadership for the CI. Collaborating with an administrative dyad partner, you'll be the vital link between providers and leaders, guiding physicians, shaping organizational planning, and ensuring the realization of strategic growth and financial objectives. Your energy and vision will be the catalyst for driving opportunities that elevate the quality, reputation, and capabilities of the CI and its cancer service lines. Your leadership
Reporting directly to the system presidents, as the SPE, you will apply your leadership across all geographic locations of the Endeavor Health system, which includes eight acute care hospitals and multiple ambulatory sites. Strategic planning

  • Leads long-term strategic planning efforts for the CI, including evaluation of and implementation of standardized processes, in alignment with the overall Endeavor Health strategic plan.
  • Initiates efforts to launch new programs and/or strategies related to cancer care to advance Endeavor Health's clinical programs, ultimately leading to increased market share (locally) and national prominence in the healthcare sector.
  • Identifies synergies with other Endeavor Health institutes, departments, programs and services to foster excellence, scientific creativity and clinical quality.

Administrative management

  • Builds robust, comprehensive clinical programs and leads primary and subspecialty program development growth across the health system.
  • In partnership with an administrative dyad, appropriately resources and structures the CI staff, activities, standards and patient care programs and services across the hospital campuses, ensuring functionality as one system.
  • Strives to maintain loyal customer relationships, monitoring patient loyalty scores and implementing strategies to foster excellence.
  • Works collaboratively and builds relationships with community physicians, understanding how the Institute can best support their needs.
  • Advocates for philanthropy and engages as an active partner with the Endeavor Health Foundations, so that clinical, research, and education programs may be best served. Clearly conveys the strategic value of philanthropy and reinforces expectations to CI leaders and team members.
  • Represents the CI on system or service line committees as required.

Management growth and recruitment

  • Enhances and expands clinical services in all pillars of cancer care to facilitate strong strategic growth of the CI. Understands physician and practice referral patterns, their impact on Endeavor Health affiliated physicians, medical groups and other clinical departments.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians and staff members regarding the clinical, administrative and financial aspects of the Institute.
  • Recruits key leaders and physicians to the CI. Mentors and develops these leaders to grow and expand their respective divisions within the academic, clinical and research communities of their respective specialties.
  • In partnership with the clinical chair and Medical Group Physician Executive, oversees practice growth targets to ensure physicians are performing to appropriate benchmarks. Establishes governance structures to ensure ongoing performance.
  • Ensures development of appropriate medical education programs for the CI, including graduate medical education where appropriate, but also continuing medical education and in-service education for the team that support CI activities.
  • Develops and grows cutting edge clinical programs of excellence and leads primary and subspecialty program development across the health system to enhance reach and differentiate Endeavor Health to the community and beyond.

Clinical

  • Advances clinical activities of the CI, including research, progressive therapies, quality of care, continuous quality improvement, monitoring of outcomes and adherence to Endeavor Health's standards for access, communication and service.
  • Develops and nurtures relationships with both affiliated physicians and members of the Endeavor Health Medical Group to achieve overall Endeavor Health quality, growth and financial objectives.
  • Works closely with the System Chief Clinical Officer to achieve Institute and organizational quality goals.
  • Evaluates quality metrics and standards and works with physicians as needed to address quality and compliance problems and mitigate associated risk.
  • Inspires members of the Institute to drive patient loyalty and engagement in support of organizational objectives.
  • Implements and ensures compliance with evidence-based care protocols.
  • Partners effectively with nursing and other clinical services lines and disciplines to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Continues direct patient care practice on a limited basis.

Scholarship

  • Understands and leverages value of undergraduate and graduate medical education and research in support of Cancer Institute growth and provider recruitment objectives.
  • Attains and maintains rank at a renowned medical school.
  • Teaches new knowledge to residents, fellows and other trainees.
  • Supports academic accomplishments, fosters physician and staff growth and hosts medical symposiums across the system.
  • Fosters academic growth of faculty members through usually accepted channels, i.e., peer review journal articles, presentations, editorial board service.
  • Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and effect changes required for improvement.
  • Works closely with the Endeavor Health Chief Academic Officer and Office of Academic Affairs to maximize the educational impact of the CI.

Clinical

  • Facilitates and lectures at conferences as curriculum demands across the system.
  • Evaluates value and fosters the development of subspecialty fellowship programs in support of CI objectives.

Research

  • Leads strategic planning for the direction of cancer related research programs, setting goals and direction.
  • Works closely with the Chief Scientific Officer to identify, maximize and obtain appropriate outside funding to support ongoing research activities.
  • Identifies and supports key cancer research programs in support of Endeavor Health's overall system growth and differentiation goals. Leads the development of a research agenda that will enhance healthcare for our communities and increase the visibility of the CI.
  • Implements and supports faculty in ongoing clinical research and publications in areas of interest.
  • Participates in government and industry sponsored research and encourages members to pursue active participation in national research and agenda setting committees.
  • Serves as liaison between the Research Institute and various partners and research principals in the establishment, expansion and execution of research projects, programs and clinical trials.
  • Ensures compliance of all research activities with relevant review boards.

Financial management

  • Creates and oversees the CI budget, ensuring financial performance meets or exceeds expectations across the system.
  • Develops, implements and provides ongoing review of the Institute's annual and long-term capital and operating budgets.
  • Monitors revenue cycle metrics and leads change with physicians.

Community health equity and prevention

  • Collaborates with the Chief Clinical Officer and other medical leadership to ensure excellence in cancer prevention and screening services across Endeavor Health.

Qualifications

Minimum education level

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited and recognized medical school required
  • Master of Business Administration, Public Health, Healthcare Administration or similar advanced degree preferred

Minimum licensure requirements

  • Eligible for medical licensing in the state of Illinois

Minimum certification requirements

  • Board certification in an area of cancer expertise
  • Scholarly accomplishment required to secure an academic appointment

Minimum work experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience as a surgical, medical or radiation oncologist, ideally at a National Cancer Institute designated cancer center or fully integrated cancer service line in a multi-hospital system
  • Minimum of five years of administrative experience as a System Physician Executive, Chair, Division Chief or similar position in a mid to large-size cancer center or healthcare system with an oncology focus
  • Prior experience in sub-specialty cancer models required
