Associate Director, Graduate Admissions


Job Summary
The Associate Director of Graduate Admissions serves as the operational leader of Graduate Admissions in Enrollment Management. This position is responsible for the recruitment and yield of qualified graduate students in alignment with University, College/School, and Academic Program enrollment targets. The Associate Director provides operational direction regarding admissions processing, records management, business processes, and technical advancement of Graduate Admissions. Works independently as well as collaboratively with team members, graduate faculty, students, alumni, and staff.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Provides leadership and operational direction for the Graduate Admissions team to meet university enrollment targets for graduate students.
  • Supervises staff within Graduate Admissions to include delegation of tasks, establishment of performance goals, summarizing weekly recruitment outreach, and assisting with recruitment strategies.
  • Manages the Graduate Admissions Processing Team to ensure timely processing of graduate admissions applications and supporting materials.
  • Participates in strategic planning Graduate Admissions processing and assists the Director with implementing the strategic plan.
  • Serves on the management team and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensures all programs, activities, and procedures comply with university, state, and federal regulations.
  • Researches and resolves complex issues related to admissions.
  • Evaluates, revises, and implements current and new admission policies and procedures as needed.
  • Assists graduate students with admissions questions, concerns, and issues.
  • Works closely with colleges and individual graduate programs to accomplish admissions goals.
  • Oversees and serves as a lead for Graduate Admissions regarding technological implementations. Responsible for systems testing and database maintenance for Slate and the data base of record.
  • Serves on the Academic Partnership Biweekly Operations Committee.
  • Oversees the review and maintenance of the Graduate Admissions website.
  • Assists with budget development and allocations.
  • Responsible for the University equipment and golf carts within the department.


Other Duties:
  • Sets objectives for Graduate Admissions recruitment staff and oversees execution of objectives.
  • Provides weekly reports and data analysis to management team.
  • Other job-relate duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires either ten years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional, full-time experience in higher education.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing higher education graduate and/or admission functions.
  • Experience in a State University System institution.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and understanding of management principles, practices, and standards, as applied to public institutions.
  • Knowledge of employee development and performance management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.
  • Skill in examining and evaluating operations and developing and/or redesign operating strategies, systems, and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
  • Ability and skill in data analysis and metrics.
