Job Summary

Under the direction of the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Director and or Associate Director, provides leadership, coordination and supervision for the department. Responsible for providing direct clinical services, including assessment and psychotherapy, emergency, and consulting services to the University community.
  • Responsible to the Director or Associate Director, University Counseling Center, or appropriate administrator. Functions for Director or Associate Director in his/her absence, as required. May be delegated responsibility for the overall direction and management of a specific functional area.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a psychological counseling program for University students. Plans and implements in-service experiences for the Counseling Center staff and prepares and administers the budget for the Counseling Center.
  • Assists in stimulating and conducting appropriate research.
  • Provides direct psychological services to University students including individual, couples, and group counseling. Conducts clinical assessments and formulates diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Provides walk-in emergency assessments, crisis intervention, and intakes for students. Provides consultations to family members and campus community constituents. Completes intake summaries, psychological assessments, emergency evaluations, progress notes, and termination summaries according to the established policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a consultant to the University faculty and staff, particularly those individuals who are working in a counseling or advising capacity with students.
  • Participates in CAPS and University wide committees, especially those concerning's student's wellbeing.
  • Participates in outreach to both assist in the delivery of mental healthcare information to the FIU community as well as increase the visibility of CAPS across campus.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree from an APA-Accredited Clinical or Counseling Psychology program with an APA-accredited internship and five (5) years of post-licensure clinical experience to include three (3) years of administrative leadership experience; OR Master's degree in Social Work or related mental health provider discipline and eight (8) years of post-licensure clinical experience to include three (3) years of administrative leadership experience. Must have Florida Mental Health License.

Desired Qualifications
  • Must be able to Baker Act under Florida Statutes.
  • Counseling Center experience a plus.
  • Must be comfortable being responsible for the development and coordination of assigned areas and activities.
