Job Summary

Oversees, designs, sources, and cultivates strategy for securing mutually beneficial regional and national corporate partnerships and long-term relationship building. Provides strategic leadership to ensure successful implementation, continued development and management of a comprehensive Corporation and Foundation Relations program in support of the University's goals, objectives, and campaign. Collaborates with Deans, VPs and other internal constituents to ensure organizational needs are fulfilled through corporate partnerships and corporate relations programming.
  • Establishes and sets direction for a comprehensive and strategic corporate and foundation relations program in support of the University's goals, objectives, and campaign. Develops, plans and implements strategies to secure corporate and foundation gifts from individuals in support of the campaign and fundraising priorities of the University.
  • Serves as a key member of the University Advancement team. Participates in university-wide prospect management, cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects. Develops and implements a strategic work plan that focuses on the internal and external objectives of University Advancement. Communicates effectively with the Advancement staff and collaborates with colleagues to inspire trust, encourage creative thinking, and collaborate with other FIU staff and volunteers to significantly increase gifts to FIU.
  • Establishes and manages a portfolio of up to 180 potential donors, prospects or suspects whose profiles (financial and demographic), and FIU affinity make them likely to make a corporate and/or foundation gift. Participates in university-wide prospect management, cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects. Develops and implements a strategic annual work plan and matrices to assist in identifying and managing the above.
  • Solicits support from previous and potential donors to the University. Meets with potential donors on campus and in the community. Travels to local businesses and residences to meet with prospects. Attends meetings, gatherings or University-sponsored events.
  • Partners with all university units and/or programs involved in corporate relations to develop and expand philanthropic opportunities with corporate partners for FIU. In particular, guides the Corporate Relations development professionals in the development of community corporate partnerships in fundraising support. Works in tandem with deans, directors and Advancement team to advance relationships with donors and new prospects. Serves as liaison with various leadership and volunteer groups supporting the University's goals.
  • Participates in informational workshops and one-on-one meetings with development officers, faculty, and staff to provide them with information on private grant opportunities, and to assist them in understanding the private grant making process, and completing grant proposals.
  • Leads and manages the development and ongoing updates of collateral materials and communications and marketing plans for the corporate relations program.
  • Stays abreast of all aspects of corporate relations program trends by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements. Analyzes and recommends methods to match current philanthropic interests of corporations with FIU research/funding priorities and faculty initiatives. Recommends policies and procedural guidelines for corporate relations and giving, aligned with needs and priorities of the institution. Produces and evaluates reports related to corporate relations program activity.
  • Prepares annual budget in alignment with, and in support of, strategic planning, programmatic activities, goal planning and evaluation, special project and initiatives.
  • Manages all fundraising activities relative to the program. Initiates, plans and coordinates the development of donor cultivation, proposals and Letters of Inquiry, solicitations and stewardship of gifts specifically focused on the program. Responsible for stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants from corporations and ensures appropriate awarding and stewarding of scholarship funds established by charitable donations from corporations.
  • Handles donated funds in the form of checks, stocks or other negotiable securities. Has access to confidential information regarding gifts and donors.
  • Displays honesty, integrity and ethics to donors at all times in the performance of duties. Must also display a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Recruits, trains, manages, motivates and retains experienced and competent professionals and support staff in collaboration with University administrators. Monitors work-load, delegates assignments, benchmarks progress, and provides leadership and guidance to corporate development professionals. Implements management methods to achieve Corporate Relations fundraising goals, including monitoring and assessment of performance and directing them to professional development activities and opportunities. Partners with HR to intervene and recommend corrective action when goals/objectives are not being met by staff. Ensures that staff comply with University policies and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and twelve (12) years of experience with seven (7) years of experience in fundraising. Supervises/ manages subordinate staff.

Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive fundraising techniques/skills required.
  • Maintains high degree of confidentiality of prospect and donor records.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in business and/or corporate development and/or foundations and grants.
  • A demonstrated career track record in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing six and seven figure corporate and foundation grants and gifts, and will present a history of building and advancement and/or corporate program and advancing fundraising performance.
