Job Summary

Performs skilled graphics design and signage work; lay outs of signage, installing, repairing, inspecting, and doing preventive maintenance on all signage and systems to support the safe functioning and quality all FIU Campuses. Performs work orders and participate in projects as directed. Works in a team-based and customer service-oriented environment.
  • Designs, lays out letters, and performs art work for posters, display panels, charts, signs, show cards and maps for display and/or exhibition as necessary. Studies design layout or customer's proposed sketch and selects technique to complete job orders. Orders material that are needed for presentations and future projects. Meets with vendors and occassionally will pick up materials that are needed for emergency jobs. Keeps stock of the most commonly used materials. Attends occupancy meetings to convey time frame for completion of signage of new buildings. Obtains information on the status of the particular projects so that materials could be ordered in a timely manner.
  • Advises on most effective types of visual displays to be utilized through out University campuses. Interprets and transforms verbal information into desired visual art work and /or display. Performs research work in securing information relating to the execution and delivery of designs for signs, posters, exhibits and other type of related work.
  • Utilizes various computer software that deal with graphics applications. Estimates cost of graphic materials, exhibits and/or dimentional models and/or projects that is requested. Meets with the construction project manager and assigns a dollar value to particular project by calculating cost of material. Obtains quotations from various vendors for sign installation of fabrications. Meets with customers to ensure that ideas conveyed clearly. Informs time frame require for completion of all projects.
  • Provides information relating to the execution and delivery of designs for signs, posters, exhibits and other type of related work.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma and four (4) years of appropriate experience OR a Bachelor's degree. Must be proficient in Adobe Create Suite and requires a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with the usage of spindle or laser engraver and a vinyl plotter.
