Job Summary

The Counseling and Psychological Services Department is currently seeking a Temporary Mental Health Counselor to join their team of professionals. Duties include:
  • Provides direct clinical services to university students/clients including individuals, couples, and group counseling. Conducts clinical assessments and formulates diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Provides emergency assessments, crisis intervention, and intakes for students. Provides consultations to family members and campus community constituents.
  • Completes intake summaries, psychological assessments, emergency evaluations, progress notes, and termination summaries according to the established policies and procedures.
  • Provides clinical services for crises and emergencies that may fall outside normal business hours (including evenings and weekends) and may be required to work later than scheduled to meet student needs.
  • Participates in departmental research either directly or indirectly.
  • Participates in outreach to provide psychoeducation, assist in the delivery of mental healthcare information to the FIU community, and increase the visibility of CAPS across campus.
  • Collaborates with departmental staff, other departments, and community organizations to provide therapeutic, advocacy, and support services to FIU students.
  • Supports the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the department and the University.
  • Performs other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Other Duties:
  • Attend and participate in regular CAPS staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service training.
  • Follow policies and procedures per state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, and HIPAA/FERPA privacy laws.
  • Respond to individual student and campus crises, as needed.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to competently serving students from diverse populations and who hold a wide range of identities

Desired Qualifications
  • Completed master's or doctoral degree in a mental health field.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work or related mental health provider discipline and two (2) years of appropriate experience.
  • Licensed, license-eligible, or registered intern status in the State of Florida.

  • Monday-Friday
  • 8:30am-5:00pm
  • 40 hours a week
