About the Position:

The George Mason University, Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS) invites applications for two (2) full-time Post-doctoral Research Fellow positions.

These positions are an NSF-funded research project. The primary purpose of the position is to build a digital twin for national-scale field-level crop monitoring, modeling, prediction, and decision support and automation.

Responsibilities:

The two (2) Postdoctoral Research Fellows will focus on building a digital twin for national-scale field-level crop monitoring, modeling, prediction, and decision support and automation.

Additional duties include but are not limited to:
  • Developing and refining algorithms and workflows for crop monitoring, modeling, prediction, and decision support and automation;
  • Developing agriculture digital twin theory, methods, and systems for smart cropping decisions;
  • Publishing and disseminating research at top-tier journals and conferences; and
  • Supervising graduate research assistants and student interns.
Required Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Knowledge of and experience in geospatial information systems, crop modeling, or digital twin; and
  • Relevant programming skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with full-stack development for decision support systems in the Web environment;
  • Experience in software development with Open Source Geospatial software and libraries, e.g. GDAL or other open source geospatial packages under OSGeo;
  • Experience in programming with multiple languages (e.g. Java, C/C++, Python) for geospatial information systems, agro-informatic applications, crop modeling, or digital twin;
  • Experience in data management and databases;
  • A track record that demonstrates the ability to work well with interdisciplinary research teams; and
  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML).
