About the Department:

The Department of Computational and Data Science (CDS) in the College of Science at George Mason University, is an interdisciplinary department with major research directions in Modeling and Simulation, Data Science, and Computational Social Sciences. About the Position:

The Term Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching four courses per semester, maintaining the design of a multi-section undergraduate course, and contribute to the university through service. Teaching responsibilities include both in-person and on-line modalities. Service to the university includes responsibilities to the department, the college, and/ or the university. While this position does not include research responsibilities, the incumbent is able to conduct research and lead research projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching:
    • Teaches and manages undergraduate courses, particularly in the field of computational and data sciences;
    • Teaches graduate courses, particularly in the Computational Science and Informatics degree program; and
  • Service:
    • Contributes to the expansion and growth of the CDS degree program in multiple modalities, including in-person, online, and global formats.
Required Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Experience in the fields of data science, network science, computational modeling, database, and/ or computational social science which are taught by the CDS department;
  • Experience in teaching at the college level, developing course materials, and developing courses;
  • Strong knowledge of the current state of the computational, data science, and/or computational social science fields;
  • Strong communication skills for both in-person and online modalities;
  • Ability to design and maintain effective curriculum across multiple modalities and to promote modern approaches to education; and
  • Is committed to the academic interests and performance for all students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise in the fields of data science, network science, computational modeling, database, and/ or computational social science.
