The Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for developing and securing gifts from individuals, corporations and/or family foundations. Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Major Gifts will identify, cultivate, and secure five, six, and seven-figure gifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Chief Development Officer, coordinate and execute strategies, cultivations, and solicitations; set and adhere to ambitious goals and benchmarks to increase funding and contribute significantly to the organization's fundraising.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward qualified donors and prospects, managing a growing portfolio of approximately 125-150 qualified relationships in Miami for four, five, six, and seven-figure funding.
  • Collaborate with team members to cultivate individual gifts from corporate partner executives.
  • Establish new relationships with prospects and community philanthropists that will result in increased major gifts for the organization.
  • Guide the development of compelling proposals and oversee the development of creative presentations and reports.
  • Work with the development team to support the fundraising events throughout the year including the Blitz Build, Hard Hats & High Heels, the Top Golf Tournament, and the CEO Build during regular work hours, after hours and on Saturdays, as necessary.
  • Utilize Raiser's Edge NXT database to maintain all prospects, add actions, and track the cultivation cycle of a donor/prospect.
  • Provide accurate and timely activity and pipeline reports and revenue forecasts.
  • Attend community events as assigned as a Habitat representative.
  • May work one day a week remotely.


Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of five years' experience in major gifts, individual and/or corporate fundraising. The ideal candidate will be able to compassionately articulate the Habitat story and case for support, have demonstrated success in fundraising solicitations, and strong communication skills for effective presentations and discussions in executive offices.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for affordable housing, be able to demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity for donors and what compels them, prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines, have experience in writing proposals, a solid working knowledge of Raiser's Edge and a sense of humor.
