About the Housekeeping Division

The Housekeeping Division is responsible for the cleaning of all administrative, academic, and residential buildings. The housekeeping staff also maintains common areas, i.e., stairways, hallways, and restrooms, bathroom facilities of the dormitories, and the entryways of faculty apartment buildings. Housekeeping service is not provided in student rooms or faculty housing units. Housekeeping services are provided on a scheduled basis. Typically, all spaces are cleaned daily seven days a week between 5:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Special cleaning programs such as floor restoration and carpet care are normally performed during periods when the academic program is in recess, i.e., Fall and Spring Breaks, between semesters, and during the summer.

About the Position
Under the direction of the Manager of Housekeeping, the Housekeeping Supervisor oversees the daily activities and work responsibilities of the Housekeeping Staff. This position works Monday through Friday for 8 hour shifts between 5:00 am and 4:30 pm. Specific schedule to be determined. The Housekeeping Supervisor is an essential personnel position that is required to report to work during inclement weather or other times that normal non-essential personnel may be excused.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Supervise the daily operations of the housekeeping staff in designated building
  • Assign staff to periodically work in other buildings to cover staff and supervisor absences
  • Train staff with the emphasis on proper use of equipment and chemicals safely
  • Perform evaluations for reporting staff as directed by Human Resources
  • Under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager, provide appropriate guidance, coaching, and disciplinary action, when needed
  • Prepare and adjust job task and assignments as needed
  • Inspect staff work assignments on a weekly basis, and provide constructive feedback on performance, including corrective solutions when necessary
  • In the absence of the Manager of Housekeeping, process supply requests from Housekeeping staff and deliver to all locations
  • Check the Event Management System daily to ensure support and coverage for all College functions during all hours of operation of the event
  • Provide seven-days-a-week support and services to the Event and Conference Office during summer months
  • Provide leadership in organizing moves within the College
  • Work rotating weekends, (7) days, 2 days off during the week, with rotating start time to cover supervisor's open shifts
  • Organize staff in providing coverage for snow removal from all assigned building (10 feet out from doors)
  • Cover open shifts in the absence of staff, as needed
  • All other duties as assigned
Line of Report: The Housekeeping Supervisor reports to the Manager of Housekeeping Services and directly supervises Custodians within assigned zone.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Environmental Services Professional Certification
  • Three years of experience in housekeeping
Professional Competencies
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership ability, including working with and motivating individuals as they perform their assigned duties
  • Knowledge of housekeeping best practices and equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of floor care
  • Demonstrated organization skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in a College, University, or Healthcare setting
  • 10 years of supervisory experience

  • Must have the Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 153 background checks
