Early-Career Research Fellowship
Education Research Track

Applications Open: April 10, 2024
Applications Close: May 22, 2024 | 5 PM ET

The Gulf Research Program's Early-Career Research Fellowship (ECRF) supports emerging scientific leaders as they take risks on research ideas not yet tested, pursue unique collaborations, and build a network of colleagues who share their interest in improving offshore energy system safety and the well-being of coastal communities and ecosystems.

Because the early years of a researcher's career are a critical time, the $76,000 in relatively unrestricted funds and mentoring this fellowship provides help recipients navigate this period with independence, flexibility, and a built-in support network.

Track Goal
For the 2024-2026 Application Cycle, the Education Research track goal focuses on contributing to the advancement of science, STEM and environmental education in the Gulf of Mexico region or Alaska by considering the impacts of establishing sense-of-place* in formal or informal learning environments.

*Sense-of-place describes the wide range of connections between people and places that develops based on the place meanings and attachment a person has for a particular setting. For the purpose of this opportunity, sense of place may include research terminology such as place-based education (PBE) or learning, identity of place, placemaking, and/or pedagogy of place.
