Assistant Director, College of Business Advising and Support Center
The College of Business at James Madison University seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Director of the Advising and Support Center (ASC). The ASC provides academic advising and support to 4,100 undergraduate business majors, empowering these individuals with skills and abilities necessary for a high probability of academic success. Reporting to the director, the assistant director is part of a team which includes full-time advisors, part-time advisors, a center coordinator, graduate assistants, and student peer advisors. The position is a 12-month Administrative and Professional Faculty appointment.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Assist with staff development and supervision
- Advise special student populations such as honors, probation, at-risk
- Provide oversight for day-to-day operations
- Assist with center’s outgoing communications such as email, Canvas
- Develop/manage first-year and second-year success programs
- Coordinate college formal acceptance process
- Support academic departments with enrollment management
- Assist director with data requests and program assessment
- Oversee software applications which assist advising functions
- Review catalog, website and printed materials for accuracy and provide editorial suggestions
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant area
- Minimum of 5 years full-time experience in higher education with student success programs
- Organizational ability
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to details
- Strong interpersonal skills, including outstanding listening skills
- Demonstrated analytical skills, and software/technical knowledge
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion. Experience and/or commitment to working with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and administrators
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience
