Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. The faculty member's role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation, professional development, and institutional service. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Teaches assigned pilot training courses and labs at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs
  2. Makes continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods
  3. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college and departmental guidelines
  4. Ensure safety standards are met in accordance with the FAA, AABI, and institution
  5. requirements Plans, develops and uses a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles
  6. Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and informs them in a timely manner of their progress in the course
  7. Submits required college reports and forms
  8. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials
  9. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community
  10. Provides access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods
  11. Responsible for professional development and institutional service as determined in consultation with the Dean
  12. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items (up to 10 pounds), such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile; extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Requires the ability to give and receive detailed information through oral communication and to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, including conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, concisely, loudly or quickly. No additional special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • This position is a 12-month contract with schedule vacation as detailed in the LSCS Policy Manual and paid holidays as scheduled by the Chancellor.
  • Responsibilities are conducted primarily weekdays but may include some evening and weekend.
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree or higher in any field; current FAA certifications of both Certified flight Instructor Airplane and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument OR both Advanced Ground Instructor and Instrument Ground Instructor; at least 3 years of nonteaching industry experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Aviation or a related field
  • Current FAA certificates as above and a current Airline Transport Pilot certificate
  • Experience as Chief or Assistant Chief Flight Instructor
  • 4+ years of experience as an aviation instructor or as a commercial pilot
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Desire2Learn or Blackboard
Salary

Commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
