Job Description:


Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Director of Sport Programs (GA337) in Campus Recreation. This position will be responsible for coordinating the intramural sports and sport clubs' programs and will be involved with Student Affairs teams and other activities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Coordinating and marketing a comprehensive intramural sports program to include leagues, tournaments, and events
  • Hiring, training, and supervising student staff to work as officials, sport club managers and event supervisors
  • Coordinating and marketing a comprehensive club program to include event and risk management, student leadership training, assessment of learning outcomes and overall management
  • Leading the Sport Club Council in its operation of Lancer Park Sports Complex (scheduling, upkeep, supervision, event and risk management)
  • Advising more than 20 sport club teams in their day to day operations and leadership development
  • Coordinating Athletic Training oversight of the sport club program
  • Working closely with Student Government and Sports Club Council for budget development
  • Managing Campus Recreation Summer Conference facility schedule and offerings with University Events and Ceremonies
  • Assisting with departmental special events including supervision, set-up and clean-up of late-night events, staff training and professional development programs
  • Coordinating event preparation for recreational fields and areas in collaboration with grounds staff
  • Being involved with Student Affairs teams and activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation management, physical education, student personnel or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Officiating knowledge in multiple sports. Official's certification(s) preferred
  • Campus Recreation experience as an undergraduate, graduate student assistant, or professional staff is preferred
  • Occasional movement of heavy equipment such as bleachers or goals
  • Outdoor work to include heat and cold weather
  • This position will require significant physical movement while training officials, performing field preparations, and ground equipment
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Experience in administering a club sport program preferred
  • NIRSA involvement preferred

Additional Information:


This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position. Salary range is $45,000 - $48,000 and will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required.
