As Network Administrator you will have shared responsibility for the design, evolution, security, management, administration, monitoring, problem diagnosis, and repair of the campus-wide Longwood University network.

Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Network Administrator/ Information Technology Specialist II (#00236). As Network Administrator you will have shared responsibility for the design, evolution, security, management, administration, monitoring, problem diagnosis, and repair of the campus-wide Longwood University network.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Review and analyze monitoring data to predict future technology needs
- Design, setup, and configure complex switching and wireless networking environments to support secured access to data, voice, and video applications
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, including network topologies, applications and operating systems, to provide for the network requirements of all current and future needs, as well as to support business and IT strategic needs
- Apply expertise in current and new technological trends, equipment, protocols, and management applications in support of business and strategic needs
- Research and present designs for emerging technologies, equipment, and related systems
- Responsible for preparing specifications, maps & schematics, and justifications
- Preform the integration of emerging technologies and equipment, and related systems
- Assist in the management of the network and network service facilities to assure continuous availability, high reliability, and peak efficiency and response
- Proactively utilize network monitoring procedures to track, report, and act on network utilization, growth, and security issues. Research the expansion of the network monitoring to include thresholds, and data archives for long term storage and retrieval
- Maintain all network devices to be no more than 2 OS service releases back-level
- Process incoming work order requests within 24 working hours
Requirements:
- High school diploma required
- Working knowledge and experience with network topology design, operation, devices, and protocols, specifically Ethernet, Switched Ethernet, Switches, Routers, TCP/IP, routing protocols and network security
- Demonstrated skill with the use of protocol analyzers, network monitoring applications, network hardware operating systems, Windows, and Unix operating systems
- Strong aptitude for and the ability to keep up with rapidly changing and evolving technologies
- Familiar with CATV/Broadband analog/digital services and design
- Excellent follow-through and time management skills, with the ability to manage assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives
- Results driven individual, high energy, self-starter who can work independently
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to interact with users of all levels of technological expertise
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted and climb ladders
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field or significant work experience in a related/similar Information Technology position
- Current CCNA and/or CCDA certification
- Working knowledge of state procurement policies and procedures
