Los Rios Community College District has 4 Student Health & Wellness (SHW) Centers located on the American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City college campuses. The SHW Centers are staffed by College Nurses (master's prepared Registered Nurses) who provide a host of services from basic first aid, health assessments, sexual health education, over the counter medication, testing for flu, Strep A, pregnancy, immunizations and more.

The Student Health & Wellness department is managed by a Dean of Student Wellness and Support Services, Victoria Flores, MSW, who oversees both the physical/medical and mental health programs. Current staffing for medical services included 3 full-time college nurses and 3 Adjunct College Nurses. We have 3 vacant college nurse positions as well, and will likely be filling one at this time. In addition to medical services, the SHW Centers also support mental health services with a full-time Director of Mental Health, 4 mental health clinicians, 4 mental health advocates, and 3 contracted mental health providers.

The SHW Centers are seeking a licensed medical doctor to serve as Medical Director to continue expanding our physical health services program for students. The individual must have a medical license in the state of California, live in the Sacramento area, and carry their own medical liability insurance as required by a Los Rios contracted provider. This contracted position will require approximately 10-15 hours a month of service.

Scope of Service:

  1. Signed standing orders
    1. Basic orders for CLIA Waived tests for pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, flu, Strep, urinalysis with the potential to add more testing
    2. Basic orders for over-the-counter and/or rescue medications
    3. Orders for prescription birth control and Plan B
      1. Student Health & Wellness will create draft orders and physician will review, edit and sign
    4. Review and update orders annually
    5. Sign for blood titer orders
  2. Support for CLIA Waiver application as needed, including providing medical license number
  3. Provide training as needed on testing or other health topics
  4. Research health topics as needed
  5. Attend a once a month meeting with college nurses
  6. Visit SHW Center monthly as required for CLIA waived testing
  7. Phone consultation with nurses as needed
  8. Carry malpractice insurance as required per Los Rios contracted provider agreement
  9. Potentially provide supervision to a Nurse Practitioner
  10. Reports to Dean of Student Wellness and Support Services
  11. Provide monthly invoice to Dean within the scope of services and within the billing hours approved.
