Job Description:


Accepting Applications for Academic Year 2023-2024

The part-time Professional Tutor will offer a range of virtual and in-person tutoring to Massasoit students in many areas such as mathematics, science, engineering, accounting, computer technology, reading, writing, language acquisition, study skill support, and assistance with general computer or technology usage. The Professional Tutor attends and/or provides professional development opportunities, assists with Center projects and mentors newer tutors. This position assists students to make academic progress, while promoting independent learning.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Functions
  • Tutor students in one-on-one, group, and workshop formats in area of specialization.
  • Assist students in developing study skills, independent learning strategies, and discipline-specific knowledge.
  • Plan, promote and participate in pre-semester and semester ARC professional development sessions and obtain CRLA Level I certification by the end of second full semester of tutoring.
  • Initiate/facilitate projects relevant to operation of the center.
  • Serve as a role model/mentor for peer and paraprofessional tutors, including serving as observer for tutoring sessions.
  • Present study skills workshops.
  • Market ARC services to students in classes and at campus events, as assigned.
  • Stay current in the area of specialization and report on relevant resources and developments in the field.

Additional responsibilities
  • Maintain required digital and paper tutoring records.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  • Adhere to the mission of the ARC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

THIS POOL IS VALID THROUGH JUNE 30, 2024. APPLICANTS WISHING TO REMAIN IN THE POOL MUST REAPPLY AND UPDATE THEIR INFORMATION THEREAFTER.

Professional Tutors are part time employees hired on an as needed basis. Positions may consist of day, night, or weekend positions and may be in Brockton, Canton, or any other instructional site.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in area of tutoring specialization
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain concepts to others clearly
  • Familiarity with Office 365 applications, Zoom and/or tutoring scheduling software
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with and understanding of the community college environment
  • Possess effective leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, and dependability
  • Desire to support students in the learning process
  • CRLA Certified at Level II



Additional Information:


Position Status: Part-time, Non-benefited Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) union position.

Supervisor: Director of Academic Support Services, or Tutoring Coordinator

Semester: Fall 2023 and/or Spring 2024

Hours: Variable. 2 - 18 hours per week, (Hours will vary, day or evening).

Salary: $32.00 Hourly

Schedule: Tutoring hours are based on demand for services, compatibility of schedules, and staffing needs. Tutors are scheduled on a semester-by-semester basis.

Worksite: Assignments may include all Massasoit sites.
