Position Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences invites applications for a full-time, open rank, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice or Assistant Instructional Professor in Mechanical Engineering. This appointment is scheduled to begin at the start of the Spring 2024 semester. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Deliver four undergraduate/graduate courses in an academic semester.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in the field to ensure course content is up-to-date and aligned with industry needs.
  • Mentor and guide students toward academic and professional success.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student consultations.
  • Actively participate in departmental and institutional activities.
  • Collaborate in a collegial and professional manner to foster a supportive and positive working environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in statics, dynamics, machine design, thermodynamics, and heat transfer are preferred.
  • Strong background in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Demonstrated excellence, or potential for, teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
