Discriminatory Harrassment/PREA Investigations Administrator

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified individual to run a new unit that will investigate all Discriminatory Harassment (DH) and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) complaints.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee all investigations related to DH and PREA complaints.
• Provide legal guidance and assess the Department's litigation risks relative to state and federal civil rights laws, training, litigation, and policy.
• Review and make recommendations for policy and training changes based on investigation findings.
• Conduct statutory and legal interpretation and analysis, as needed.
• Advise Wardens and executive-level staff on legal matters pertaining to DH and PREA investigations.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and active law license highly preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of litigation and oversight of investigations.
• Familiarity with statutes, administrative rules, and policies related to correctional and Civil Rights law.
• Ability to formulate and implement policies and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with high-level staff, attorneys, and the public.
• Experience with prisoner or employment litigation is highly desirable.
