The Culture and Communication Specialist will work closely with the San Dieguito Union High School District (District) administration (Superintendent, school board members, etc.), the NCRC Training Institute and President to design, implement, and manage a comprehensive plan to achieve the goals of the One San Dieguito Initiative (OSDI). The purpose of the One San Dieguito Initiative is to build a sense of inclusion and belonging across the District. All stakeholders, including the Superintendent of the District, school board members, administrators, teachers, staff, students, parents, and community members, will work collaboratively to create a supportive and inclusive environment that enables all students to feel a greater sense of belonging and achieve their academic goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Implementation

In partnership with the District, develop and deliver a training program to equip stakeholders with a set of communication, culture, and conflict resolution skills.

Utilize NCRC's multi-step implementation process grounded in mediation methodology.

Lead or participate in other prevention and intervention-focused efforts, including, as appropriate:

revisions to District policies;

organizational changes, such as the hiring, training, and support of staff;

establishment of a Community Advisory Board;

facilitated conflict resolution processes; and

restorative circles to address incidents of harm.

Co-facilitate NCRC/District partner meetings; offer analysis, support and suggestions as needed.

Help ensure program fidelity and consistency of practice at all times.

Skill Building

* In collaboration with NCRC's Training Institute, provide age-appropriate training in communication, culture and conflict across the spectrum of stakeholders

Direct Service/Program Management

Meet and collaborate regularly with District leadership to develop relationships with points of contact, assess needs, brainstorm and strategize around program implementation, prepare reports and Power Point presentations as requested.

Create and deliver a long-range, audience-specific (students, Administrators, community members, parents, etc.) roadmap for training implementation.

Facilitate the creation of a community advisory board (CAB) comprised of community members and parents; facilitation of the first CAB meeting.

Documentation

Collaborate with NCRC's Marketing department to develop OSDI materials.

Develop internal checklist including messaging the District will share with students, staff, and parents re: OSDI training delivery.

Support the District and NCRC to document, evaluate and measure the impact of the One San Dieguito initiative throughout the district with metrics to show change over time, and make suggestions for improvements as needed.


EXPERIENCE AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • 5 years' experience working directly within the secondary school setting as an administrator, principal, vice principal, teacher, or counselor.
  • Strong understanding of the concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as they pertain to educational systems and impact on individuals and communities.
  • Ability to collaborate with District personnel in the development and refinement of implementation plans for the OSDI, at the District, community and system-wide level.
  • Ability to work independently, and collaboratively, and demonstrate excellent communication skills within a team.
  • Project management.
  • Ability to train.
  • Cultural and cross-cultural competency and relationship building.
  • Public speaking and the ability to create and deliver high-quality presentations in front of senior level school administration, board members, parents, and the community at large.
  • Well organized and keen attention to detail.

OTHER ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

This is a primarily in-person position requiring a significant amount of driving throughout the San Dieguito Unified High School District, collaborating with the SDUHSD Superintendent, and at designated school sites and community-based sites within the District.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Education, Educational Administration, Conflict Resolution, Peace & Justice Studies, or a related field
  • Restorative Practices/Restorative Justice Certification/Training/Coursework preferred
  • Criminal background check and DOJ background clearance required after hire

Salary - the salary range for this position is $80K - $85K, depending on experience.
