As an Electrical Engineer/Computer Engineer/Electronics Engineer, you will perform the following duties:

  • Serve as a technical authority leading a team and/or project who performs engineering research and development related to advanced weather radar systems or other radio frequency (RF) sensing equipment for the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) research radar facilities. These facilities include the National Weather Radar Testbed (NWRT) which is comprised of a variety of radar technologies, such as Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) based phased array radars, WSR-88D dual polarized research radar, and mobile dual- polarized radars. Manage and oversee critical operational and integration systems engineering efforts to establish, maintain, and improve weather observing systems, national networks, and their hardware and software application.
  • Lead the development and implementation of novel techniques and/or instrumentation for atmospheric sensing. Provide technical engineering expertise in one or more of the following radar aspects: real-time software/firmware development, testing, and/or hardware integration, weather radar data analysis, digital signal processing, RF antenna design/characterization, wireless communications or other RF interference, and/or spectrum use/compliance.
  • Manage and oversee research projects and collaborative acquisition activities. Manage team member and/or project work, develop schedules, track progress of federal and contract staff, and communicate project status to leadership. Perform project analysis that considers project risks, issues, budgetary impacts, and other concerns that may impact project success.
