Part-Time Sociology/Anthropology Instructor (Social Inequality)

Ohio Wesleyan University (www.owu.edu) is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and is located just 20 miles north of Columbus.

The Department of Sociology/Anthropology at OWU is looking for a Part-time Instructor for Fall 2024:

  • The part-time instructor will teach Social Inequality (scheduled to be taught on Tuesdays/Thursdays 2:40-4:00)
  • If a candidate is interested, there will also be an opportunity to teach other upper-level electives in Spring 2025

The pay is $5,000 per course.

At Ohio Wesleyan, a residential liberal arts institution, all classes are taught in an in-person, face-to-face setting. We do not offer online courses during spring and fall semesters.

The ideal candidate will have at least a Master’s degree completed in Sociology, Anthropology, or a related field, and teaching experience at the college level.

If you decide to join the Department of Sociology/Anthropology, you will:

  • Become part of a dynamic, supportive, and collaborative team of instructors who are committed to their students and to excellence in language teaching;
  • Join a liberal arts college that is deeply committed to creating an environment that celebrates and helps to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Teach small classes (usually less than 19 students per class);
  • Have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues through our interdisciplinary Social Justice major;
  • Be mentored and trained by the Chair of the Department (Vanessa Hildebrand);
  • Have access to optional faculty development opportunities outside the department;
  • Have your own office space for use when you’re on campus; and,
  • Receive a free parking pass that allows you to park anywhere on campus.

Interested candidates should send a Cover Letter indicating your interest in the position and a current C.V. (including three professional references) to Dr. Paul Dean (psdean@owu.edu). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, beginning May 17.
