Job Description

Work as part of the research security group, providing technical support and compliant Information Technology/Information Systems solutions to faculty and staff with the goal of protecting sensitive and classified research data. This falls under ODU's Industrial Security Program, which protects classified information required to perform on contracts in accordance with 32 CFR 117 (NISPOM). Other sensitive areas include storage and processing of Controlled Unclassified (CUI), Export Controlled, and proprietary information. Serve as Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and research infrastructure user support.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Extensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures for computer operating system administration (Windows or Linux). Basic familiarity with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs), and Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) tools such as SCAP Compliance Checker (SCC). Have sufficient understanding of a system, its concept of use and architectures, to provide an accurate assessment of product security in terms of possible threats and potential avenues of attack. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Demonstrated customer and project management skills to include strong prioritization, organization, planning, teamwork, and negotiation skills. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences. Ability to effectively interact with managers and technical staff. Ability to determine applicability of IA vulnerability alerts or bulletins to assets.

Special licenses, registration or certification

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance within 12 months of employment. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Ability to obtain DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II (e.g. Security+) within 6 months of employment.

Ability to obtain IAM Level II/III certification (e.g. CISSP) within 12 months of employment.

Level and type of experience

Considerable experience in vulnerability management, prioritization and end point management.

Considerable experience in supporting users and applications using account management tools and policies. Considerable experience in identifying and executing security controls for key systems. Working experience related to research or program/project management in a university or research center environment. Working experience developing strategic plans and corresponding operational budgets. Some experience with classified material handling and storage.

Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)

Considerable knowledge of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs), and Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) tools such as SCAP Compliance Checker (SCC). Working experience with classified material handling and storage. Active Secret Clearance; Active IAT Level II (e.g. Security+) or IAM Level II/III certification (e.g. CISSP) in accordance with DoD 8570.01M. Certification in systems administration (MCP, LFCS, etc.).

Conditions of Employment

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance within 12 months of employment. Must be a U.S. citizen.
