Title: Director of Development

Report: Head of School

Oldfields School, an all-girls international boarding and day school, grades 8-12 in northern Baltimore County, is looking for an experienced Director of Development. This is an outstanding opportunity for a person with a high degree of integrity and a keen interest and deep commitment to the value of a single-sex independent school education.

The Director of Development supervises a staff of three (3) and serves as a liaison to the Development and Alumnae Committee and Governance Committee. The Director will create and oversee important aspects of the School's strategic alumnae and development plan such as the Capital Campaign (major and planned giving), the Oldfields Fund, parent and alumnae relations, prospect/donor management, events, advancement-related communications and budget oversight. This position reports to the Head of School and serves on the School's Leadership Team. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring frequent travel and work outside of normal business hours, including some weekends. Occasional remote work may be permitted at the discretion of the Head of School.

Specific responsibilities include:

Leadership in Fundraising and Stewardship:

The Director oversees operating and capital fundraising for the School, coordinating and directing the work of a team of internal and external resources to support Oldfields' short- and long-term needs. In addition, the Director works to engage the larger Oldfields School community by implementing and utilizing cultivation and stewardship strategies.

Design, implement, and manage-in collaboration with the Head of School and Board of Trustees-a comprehensive development program to successfully raise annual, capital, and endowment support to achieve the School's mission and strategic goals.

Oversee the Oldfields Fund, in conjunction with staff, the Head of School, and the Development and Alumni Committee.

Manage a portfolio of up to 150 donors/prospects; personally cultivate and solicit gifts with a primary focus on solicitations of $100,000+.

Provide leadership and direction in building programs to support prospect research, major gifts, planned giving, and stewardship.

Engage the Head of School and Board leadership in strategic fundraising activities.

Engage the global Oldfields School community by traveling to cultivate and steward relationships.

Provide input into the School's strategic direction.

Management and Administration:

The Director manages and contributes to a series of important advancement-related processes, while managing and coordinating a team of internal and external professionals.

Oversee the development office budget and administrative systems to accurately manage donor/prospect information, gift processing, acknowledgment, accounting, data, and reporting systems.

Oversee hiring and development of staff responsible for annual and capital giving, alumnae relations, international relations, events, database management, and prospect research.

Serve as staff liaison to Board committees, including the Development and Alumnae and Governance Committees. Provide regular fundraising reports to the Board of Trustees.

Assist the Head of School with trustee candidate identification.

Oversee the planning and execution of constituent-related activities and special events.

Provide a development perspective to the School's communications and marketing efforts.

Serve as a member of the School's Leadership Teams.

Respect the traditions and purpose of an all-girls secondary school education.

Understand and support the mission and motto of Oldfields School.


Qualifications:

Oldfields School seeks an individual who can balance a wide range of experiences in fundraising with a willingness to become an active member of our community. The following qualifications are encouraged but not mandatory requirements:

Bachelor's degree and five to seven years of non-profit development experience, preferably in a school/college setting, with at least 3 years of direct fundraising experience in major gifts.

Demonstrated ability to establish, develop, and maintain meaningful and authentic relationships with prospects, donors, parents, alumnae, trustees, and other constituents to strengthen relationships and grow financial support.

Strong leadership and team-building skills to work in collaboration with a wide range of colleagues and constituencies.

Proven management experience with demonstrated success as a development professional.

Comfortable in a strategic capacity, management role, and/or hands-on contributor.

Excellent writing, editing, and public speaking skills.

Proven organizational skills, attention to detail, and respect for confidentiality.

Proficient with fundraising/donor management software Raiser's Edge, especially RENXT, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and MailChimp would be a plus

Skilled in promoting a vision, communicating a strategy, and implementing goals.
