Position Overview
The Occupational Therapist (OT) (Hand Therapy) is responsible for the overall coordination of the clinical functions of the outpatient setting. Primary job duties to provide direct patient care involving evaluation, treatment, assessment and education of adaptive equipment and devices.
Essential Functions
Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention. Review physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and occupational therapy treatment required.
Provide information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs. Help to restore physical function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent permanent disability.
Obtain patients' informed consent to proposed interventions.
Administer manual exercises, massage, or traction to help relieve pain, increase patient strength, or decrease or prevent deformity or crippling.
Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enter information into computer. Test and measure patient's strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, or respiratory or circulatory efficiency and record data.
Discharge patient from occupational therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals.
Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
Maintain confidentiality of Personal Health Information (PHI) in accordance with company Policies and State and Federal laws, including OHSA and HIPAA regulations.
Perform job in accordance with all company safety practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills Abilities Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school
- Current/valid state Occupational Therapist licensure
- CHT certification a plus
- Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association
- Minimum of one (1) year of related experience, preferably in an orthopedic clinic setting
- Some meaningful hand therapy experience and a desire to work toward a CHT.

- Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.
