Assistant Teaching Professor of Applied Linguistics

The Department of Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position, to start August 2024.

The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) program and undergraduate composition courses for matriculated international students; teaching responsibilities may include other courses in the department as well.

The Assistant Teaching Professor will also be expected to engage in service to the department and to the programs that they teach in, such as placement testing, attendance at meetings, and curricular development.

Other duties may include new course design and delivery, mentorship of practicum students, and coordination of professional development events for students and colleagues.

A Master's degree in TESOL or related field required; a doctorate in a related field welcome. Priority will be given to candidates who have experience in teaching ITA courses and composition to international or multilingual writing students, supporting international graduate students in pedagogical and disciplinary activities, and collaborating with colleagues on professional development initiatives.

This is a 36-week (two academic semesters, fall and spring), non-tenure-track, term appointment with the possibility of reappointment. Full-time Assistant Teaching Professors teach three courses per semester.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
